First online toy and book library helps parents prioritise play

27th January 2012

KidsLibrary UK Limited, a new business concept offering a premium quality toy and book rental service for babies and pre-schoolers, launched this week.  Kidslibrary gives parents the convenience and comfort of toys and books from leading educational brands, targeted to their child’s age group, and delivered directly to their door – no fuss, no waste, no storage issues, just fun.
KidsLibrary aims to help today’s busy parents prioritise time spent playing and reading with their children over time spent shopping for the right toys and books, and offers a sustainable alternative to buying new toys and books. The company only stocks leading educational brands that support learning through play and is partnering with recognised suppliers of quality children’s toys and books, including Macmillan Children’s Book, Usborne Books, Walker, Ladybird, BRIO, TOLO Toys, Plan Toys, Early Learning Centre and Manhattan Toy.
KidsLibrary is launching with Jack Boxes (named after the company’s colourful Jack-in-the-book logo), suitable for babies aged 3 months plus, 6 months plus and 9 months plus, and will add new Jack Boxes on a rolling basis suitable for children aged 0-2 years within 12 months, and ultimately 0-5 years.  For a monthly subscription of £44.99 parents receive a Jack Box which they can keep for two months or more containing 10 toys and 10 books; a mix of the latest and old favourites. KidsLibrary follows the guidance of its Partners, all highly respected companies that have experts in child development, to ensure the contents of each Jack Box supports the learning and development needs of each child’s age group. When their child is ready for some new challenges, the Jack Box will be collected and replaced with a new Jack Box containing a new selection of toys and books suitable for their child’s next stage of development.
Key benefits of KidsLibrary include:
  • Premium quality toys and books targeted to a child’s stage of development from leading educational brands
  • An environmentally conscious choice that reduces waste by recycling toys and books
  • As a child outgrows or tires of toys and books they are returned to Kidslibrary to be recycled and replaced with new toys and books, rather than accumulating in the home
  • A simple and easy to use service that eliminates the hassle of shopping – a new Jack Box of toys and books are delivered to the customer’s door every two months and the old Jack Box is collected at the same time
  • Exceptionally high standards of hygiene and quality control with all toys sterilised and steam cleaned before being placed in sealed bags.

Kidslibrary was founded by two mums, Vicky Whiter and Nicole Gilbert, who met at an NCT class in 2010. They came up with the idea when they tried to find a local toy library for their two young children and realised that the nearest one was over 30 miles away. After researching the market, they quickly identified a gap for an online toy rental service, providing excellent service and a range of wooden and educational toys from premium suppliers that were generally not available in discount stores or on the second hand market.
As Whiter explained “Essentially, KidsLibrary is a LOVEFiLM for toys and books, delivering the pick of the world’s toys and books direct to your door giving you time to play and learn with your child at each stage of their development.”
Gilbert added “Whist the concept of online toy rental is not new, we felt it essential to include books which makes our model unique. We hope our service can help families make the most of the time they have together, lead more sustainable lives and eliminate the clutter caused by outgrown toys and books.”
The Kidslibrary concept has already received support from Mums and businesses alike.
Georgie Allen, a childcare Consultant in Belgravia said “I have been working with the parents of babies and pre-schoolers for over 5 years and love the selection of toys and books KidsLibrary is offering.  I shall certainly be recommending it to my clients.”
Susie, a working mum of two from Islington said “I never knew what my children would like, so our house became overrun with outgrown toys, this helps me do my bit for the environment and Christmas will come 6 times a year!”
KidsLibrary will be delivering its first Jack Boxes in March and is offering a 20% discount to customers who pre-order their first Jack Box before the 1st March 2012.
